03 Nov World Recipe: Cordon Bleu
Cordon Bleu is a classic French dish that has won over palates around the world. It consists of a veal cutlet stuffed with cooked ham and cheese, breaded, and fried until it has a crispy exterior and a juicy, melted cheese interior. Perfect for an elegant meal or to impress your guests at a special dinner, here’s how to make it at home.
Ingredients
-2 veal cutlets (about 300 g total)
-Salt
-Ground black pepper
-2 slices of cooked ham
-2 slices of cheese
-50 g of all-purpose flour
-1 egg
-75 g of breadcrumbs
-300 ml of oil for frying
Preparation
Flatten the veal cutlets with a meat mallet or rolling pin to make them thinner.
Season the cutlets with salt and pepper. Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each cutlet. Fold each cutlet in half to cover the filling.
Dredge each cutlet in flour, then dip in beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, ensuring they are well covered at each stage.
Let the breaded cutlets rest for a few minutes so that the coating adheres well.
Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the Cordon Bleu one at a time until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Serve the Cordon Bleu hot, accompanied by a fresh salad or your choice of potatoes.
